How to Submit a Resume with a One Letter First Name?

I have a student who has a one letter first name. His first name is Y (pronounced "E"). He said a lot of times when he puts in an application it will not accept one character as a name.

Will this fly with an ATS in your opinion/experience? Should he somehow elongate his name on his resume in order for it to be seen?

Any advice is welcome, TIA!

This is a difficult question to answer. My guess is that it varies by ATS system. I connected with a couple of recruiters and they said their ATS permits only one letter. If the system is wanting more than his full name, one individual suggested he contact their HR office. If he cannot reach someone, they suggested adding "Y-pronounced E", which the system should accept since other names are hyphenated. I hope this helps!

Thanks Billie! I didn't think of doing it that way - great idea!
